The Chalet in France

The kitchen area has a 4 burner gas hob, a multi-function microwave oven which can roast and grill, fridge, freezer, toaster, cutlery and crockery for 5, lots of pots and pans, plenty of cooking utensils, chopping boards and knives, wire food covers, glasses, trays and tablemats and most of the things you need to feel at home.

The living area has a table and 4 chairs, settee, coffee table, radio/cd player, iron, bookshelf with paperbacks and maps, Trivial Pursuits and Scrabble games, and folder of local information. The settee pulls out to form an extra bed (pillow and duvet in main bedroom).

The shower room also has a wash basin and mirror and a small hairdryer. There is a separate room with toilet, wash basin with mirror, mirror light and razor socket.

The main bedroom has a large double bed with pillows and duvet (please bring your own pillow cases and sheets or hire them from Reception), wardrobe large mirror, bedside tables and reading lights.

The second bedroom has 2 good sized single beds, wardrobe and cupboards and mirror.

Outside

There is a large deck with table and chairs, a large grassed area has a pergola for shade in summer, 2 loungers and additional chairs. A mobile bar-b-que is kept in the shed and there are 2 French traditional style bicycles. There is a variety of bats and balls for children. To one side of the chalet is a long grassy avenue with no through traffic which is a good play area for children. To the other side is a paddock where the site owner's horses and donkeys are kept.

On the Campsite

The site is really a holiday village with everything you need for a family holiday. It has a large pool complex with childrens pool and 3 large pools all interconnected, a lazy river, multiple slides, a waterside snack bar and lots of loungers. There is a children'splayground with slides, swings etc., a petting zoo with exotic small animals and birds, tennis court, basketball area and football pitch.

Catering on site includes a bar and restaurant in a converted barn with exposed walls and beams, take-away meals, pizza bakery,bread bakery and quite large supermarket.

Surrounding Area

Shopping: 2 large supermarkets within 5 minutes drive, hyper markets in Rochfort, Saintes and La Rochelle, all within half an hour drive. Open and covered markets in Marennes, La Tremblade and Rochfort.

Restaurants: several in Marennes centre, several seafood restaurants in Marennes Port,also Bourcefranc le Chapus and La Tremblade and a Macdonalds in Marennes, all within a few minutes drive. Local shops in Marennes include butchers, bakers, wine shop etc..

Beaches: children's beach at Marennes Plage a few minutes away and huge beaches on Ile d'Oleron and the Cote Sauvage about 20 minutes away. Naturist beaches on Oleron and near La Palmyre.

Zoo at La Palmyre

Several horse riding stables in the area and some golf courses. Fishing on local canals and beaches.

Wildlife: lots of countryside including marshland, dunes and forests with marshes and canals within walking or cycling distance.

Other visitor attractions: Ancient rope factory, sailing ship restoration, maritime museum, bars and shops in Rochfort. Maritime museum, aquarium, marina, harbour, quayside bars and shops in La Rochelle. Roman amphitheatre and remains in Saintes.
